New and Improved Bill Pay Service
We are excited to announce that the City of Alma is transitioning to a new and improved third party payment provider effective Match 5, 2026. Moving forward, we will be utilizing BS&A Payments for online and in-person credit card payments.
This change offers a more user-friendly experience, including more online payment options and modern in-person payment devices.
Downtown Overnight Parking
Parking overnight in one of the municipal lots downtown Alma is easy and affordable. If you live within the Downtown Development Authority District a yearly permit is only $50. If you live outside of the Downtown Development Authority District you can still park overnight but it will cost $160 yearly for the permit.
If you park in a municipal lot overnight without a permit you may receive a $25 fine. When parking overnight, you must park in the designated areas, located to the back of the lots. If you have a permit and do not park with the designated area, you may receive a $25 fine. Please look for these signs and park between them.
To learn more about parking overnight downtown in the municipal lots, please check out the Police Department's page for more information.
In the Middle of Everything!
That's Alma. The wonder and beauty of the great State of Michigan is easily accessible from Alma. We are located where M46 and US127 come together in the middle of the state. Alma’s a great place to live and raise a family. We are proud of our quaint, walkable downtown that continues to improve with new restaurants, shops and apartments. Being the home of the Alma College Scots, we provide opportunities for the arts and culture that rival much larger cities. Come and see how nice it can be to be living in the #inthemiddleofeverything #almami

2026 Alma City Commission Election Information
City of Alma voters will elect four members to the Alma City Commission in 2026. Anyone wishing to run for the office can pick up forms at the City Clerk's office. Nominating petitions must be filed before 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Commissioners whose terms are expiring this year are:
Andrew Bare
Roxann Harrington
Michelle Pitts
Danny Wernick
Petitioners seeking one of these four seats will be filing for a 4-year term. In accordance with City Charter, three candidates receiving the highest number of votes will hold office for four years, and the candidate receiving the fourth highest number of votes will hold office for two years.
To file for election to the Alma City Commission, you must be a registered voter in the City of Alma.
Signatures must be gathered within the 180-day period immediately preceding the date of filing.
The City Charter requires the petition be "signed by no less than twenty-five (25) nor more than 50 registered electors of the City". The $100 fee in lieu of petition filing is not available due to Charter restrictions.
The filing deadline for nominating petitions, per state statute, is no later than 4:00 p.m. on the fifteenth Tuesday before the August Primary, or April 21, 2026.
The General Election will be held November 3, 2026. If, upon the expiration date of the time for filing petitions, there are 9 or more candidates for the open seats, the contest will be subject to a primary election on August 4, 2026.
For questions or additional information, please contact City Clerk Sara Anderson by phone at (989) 463-8336, by email at cityclerk@myalma.org, or stop in at the Alma Municipal Building for an informational packet and nominating petitions.
